Are sun protection products expensive to buy?

It is always advisable when protecting your skin to go for recognised, quality products that have a proven track record in shielding you from the harmful damage that can be done by the sun. That said, anything is better than nothing.

There are many clothing manufacturers who specialise in clothing, hats, sunglasses, parasols and swimwear that offer good protection but these items come at a price. I would argue that you couldn’t pay too much, within reason of course, to protect yourself and your family from premature aging and skin cancer.

The sheer volume of sun protection creams that are available is huge and care must be taken to get the right one for your skin, but these tend to be reasonably affordable unless you opt for the designer labels – your choice. The ultra expensive products are not always the best at protecting your skin, so some common sense is needed to get the best for you.

Read the label on the bottle or clothing item and see what the manufacturers say, also compare different products against each other. If in doubt, buy a product that has a high SPF and re-apply often, making sure to cover all exposed areas of the skin liberally. If you intend to get wet, use a waterproof or water resistant sun protection cream but re-apply according to manufacturers advice.
